Lunch with Miss Smith (2010)
A site specific installation in which participants were invited to have lunch and a conversation with a cartoon character.
During their conversations at the table, participants were videoed.
A live video feed could be seen in an adjoining room.
This enabled Birgitta Hosea to chose one of a number of pre-recorded responses from the keyboard-controlled, Flash animated character. These responses had been chosen at random from old-fashioned teach yourself English textbooks (inspired by the playwright, Ionescu).
Being invited to Birgitta's home, being welcomed by her (in character as a landlady) and coming in to sit in a genuine, domestic interior that had been made to look like a drawn cartoon - all these aspects added to the experience.
